CLINTON – Clinton County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections Eric Van Lancker has announced that voters in the City of Calamus will have the opportunity to fill a vacancy on their City Council on Dec. 11.
A valid petition seeking the special election was filed with the Calamus City Clerk in September.
The polls for the Dec. 11 special election in Calamus will be open from noon to 8 p.m. and voting will take place at the CALCO, 201 Main St, Calamus.
Van Lancker said citizens in Calamus who would like to place their name on the ballot to serve on the City Council need to have their petition and affidavit of candidacy filed at the Clinton County Auditor’s Office at the Clinton County Administration Building, 1900 N. 3rd St., Clinton, before 5 p.m. on Nov. 16. The nomination petition will require 10 signatures from eligible voters within the city limits.
Absentee voting to fill the vacancy will begin on Nov. 21 in the Auditor’s Office at the Clinton County Administration Building, 1900 N. 3rd St., Clinton. That is the same day absentee ballots may be sent by mail from the Auditor’s Office. The last day to vote in the office will be Dec. 10. Requests for absentee ballots to be sent by mail can be filed at the Auditor’s Office now through Nov. 30. All ballots that are mailed back to the Auditor’s Office must be postmarked by Dec. 10 to be counted.
